Ol Pejeta Conservancy, nestled in the foothills of Mount Kenya in Laikipia County, is one of Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife sanctuaries. Spanning 90,000 acres, this conservancy is a beacon of conservation and home to a remarkable array of wildlife. It boasts the largest black rhino population in East Africa and shelters the world’s last two northern white rhinos, offering visitors a rare chance to learn about these critically endangered species. The conservancy is also home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo—alongside cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and over 300 bird species, making it a biodiversity hotspot.
Beyond its rich wildlife, Ol Pejeta is famed for its innovative conservation practices and visitor experiences. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya for rescued chimps, provides an engaging opportunity to witness their rehabilitation. Visitors can enjoy diverse activities such as game drives, guided bush walks, lion tracking, and night safaris. With luxurious lodges and eco-friendly camps, the conservancy combines comfort with a deep connection to nature. Its strong commitment to community development and sustainable tourism makes Ol Pejeta not only a wildlife haven but also a model of impactful eco-tourism.
